An Aimchess alternative that trains you from your own games
Aimchess analyses your recent games, compares your skills with players of your rating, and builds lessons from your mistakes, with a study plan each week. GreyChess starts from your games too: it reviews them on your device and turns what went wrong into training, beside the chess books you own.
What GreyChess does with your games
Your games are the start, and nothing is sent anywhere to be analysed.
- Your username is enough: GreyChess reads your games straight from Lichess and Chess.com, with no password, and a PGN file adds games from anywhere else.
- A review on your device: Stockfish 18 grades every move, from brilliant to blunder, and says in a sentence why a mistake was one, such as a fork, a pin, a piece left unprotected or a mate walked into. Games Lichess already analysed arrive with its scores.
- What your games say together: once three are reviewed, your accuracy in the opening, middlegame and endgame, the tactics behind your mistakes, how often you ran short of time and what it cost, and your score in the openings you play most.
- Your mistakes come back: each becomes a flashcard that returns just before you would forget it, and the week’s mistakes can be practised again.
Training built on the same idea
Some of it will feel familiar.
- Spot the blunder: four moves of a game you reviewed play out, and you say which one went wrong, as the review graded it.
- Without the board: puzzles solved blind, from the position before the last move, or with no pieces on the board and the position as a list.
- Rated puzzles at your level by theme, with your weakest theme every third puzzle, and the endgames to know against Lichess’s tablebase.
- Play any position out, against the bot at your level, or an ending against the tablebase.
Where Aimchess may suit you better
Fair is fair. Aimchess does some things GreyChess does not.
- Comparing you with others: Aimchess measures six core aspects of chess and compares you with players of the same rating. GreyChess compares you with yourself: your last ten games against the ten before.
- More trainers and a weekly plan: Aimchess lists thirteen trainers, among them an Advantage Capitalization Trainer, a Defender and a Time Trainer, and a personalized study plan each week.
- A longer history: Aimchess Premium analyses your last 1,000 online games, across accounts on Chess.com, Lichess and Chess24. GreyChess reads your last 30 reviewed games together.
- Apps from the stores: Aimchess has phone apps. GreyChess installs from the browser on any device.
